If wandering around a mall filled with the undead, armed with whatever you can get your hands on, sounds like a good time, then Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is what you need to be playing. In the game, you’ll come across plenty of zombies, but also plenty of people who need your help dealing with them.

One of these scoops is the Japanese Tourists you’ll find in the mall with you. Getting them to safety can be tough if you don’t know how to do it. If you need help rescuing these two travelers, we’re here to give you all the answers you need.

Where to find the Japanese Tourists in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

Otis will call you about these two Japanese tourists on the first day at 10 PM. The pair you’re looking for can be found inside of the Sir Book-a-lot store in the Wonderland Plaza. These two men, Yuu and Shinji, are trying to get out of the store.

Unfortunately, since Frank doesn’t speak any Japanese, and they don’t speak any English, there’s a problem. They don’t trust Frank and won’t go with him to the Security Room.

How to get the Japanese Tourists to follow you in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

In order to communicate with the Japanese tourists and get them to follow you for a rescue, you’ll need to find the Japanese Conversation book. Luckily, this book can be found in the same bookstore you find the tourists in —Sir Book-a-lot.

As mentioned, the Japanese tourists are inside of the Sir Book-a-lot store, so go back to the entrance to find the book. Be aware that it can spawn in different spots, but it will most likely be behind the counter, on the shelf just to the right. It will be a yellow book and labeled clearly. Browse the shelves until you find it, then pick it up.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Be quick when locating the book, and don’t abandon the tourists once you find it. They might wander outside, and be at a much higher risk of being killed. Luckily zombies aren't as difficult to fight as the Special Forces. As soon as you find the Japanese Conversation book, head back to converse with the tourists. They’ll argue for a moment, then decide to follow you.

Feel free to dump the book when you’ve successfully gotten them to follow you, to free up an inventory slot.

All that’s left is to get them to safety. Since you can pick up this scoop while completing Out of Control, we recommend doing them together so you can take the shortcut from Wonderland Plaza to Paradise Plaza. This will make their rescue much easier.

The Sims community is in shambles after EA announces Sims 5 isn’t happening https://www.destructoid.com/the-sims-community-is-in-shambles-after-ea-announces-sims-5-isnt-happening/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-sims-community-is-in-shambles-after-ea-announces-sims-5-isnt-happening https://www.destructoid.com/the-sims-community-is-in-shambles-after-ea-announces-sims-5-isnt-happening/#respond Thu, 19 Sep 2024 20:23:30 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=600767

The latest update from EA about the mysterious Project Rene is here, and with it has come a huge amount of controversy. It’s been revealed that The Sims 4 is going to remain the focus of the series and that Project Rene, widely believed to be the codename for The Sims 5, will instead be a multiplayer game.

If that news doesn’t fill you with confidence about the future of the life simulation series, you’re not alone. Fans across the globe have not been taking the news well, with thousands of players making their opinions heard on all corners of the internet.

Sims fans are not happy that Sims 5 isn’t in any future plans

It’s led to plenty of players proclaiming the current iteration of the series is the worst so far, like this Twitter post:

https://twitter.com/zeglifrey/status/1836061962116968775

With over 11,000 likes, it seems the opinion is a popular one, with the sentiment echoed by posts like this saying that Sims 5 could be the make or break of the franchise, but without it, the series has nowhere left to go:

https://twitter.com/hungryistrying/status/1836063522771349739

R/thesims, one of the most popular subreddits for the game, has also been blowing up with similar posts, like this one saying they don't think they can take the many more years of content planned for the fourth installment:

https://www.reddit.com/r/thesims/comments/1fj3lnh/comment/lnlgqlz/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

With the number of upvotes and replies, many players seemingly feel the same.

We’ve talked about how expensive The Sims 4 is before, and with the announcement that EA plans to further develop the game for years to come, that price will only increase. Many players have come out to say they feel the fourth game has lived far beyond its expiration date, and they can’t take more of it.

Some players even believe this is the nail in the coffin of the franchise as a whole:

https://www.reddit.com/r/thesims/comments/1fj8m8d/rest_in_peace_sims_franchise/

We’ve talked about how expensive The Sims 4 is before, and with the announcement that EA plans to further develop the game for years to come, that price will only increase. These popular posts agree that EA is simply wringing the game for as much cash as possible and cares far more about the money than the series itself.

Although it seems the most popular reactions have been negative, it’s not all doom and gloom. Some Simmers like say that as long as development for Sims 4 continues, they’re not heartbroken about not having a sequel:

https://twitter.com/ilyamethyst/status/1836094764057333945

The Sims has remained at the top of the life simulation game genre since its debut in 2000, and only time will tell if this decision to not go forward with The Sims 5 and instead focus on the current installment and spinoffs will keep it there.

How to fix the BG3 Mod Manager if it’s stuck on the loading profile screen https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-fix-bg3-mod-manager-stuck-on-loading-profile-screen/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-to-fix-bg3-mod-manager-stuck-on-loading-profile-screen https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-fix-bg3-mod-manager-stuck-on-loading-profile-screen/#respond Wed, 18 Sep 2024 17:42:04 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=599936

Mods are a great way to spice up your Baldur’s Gate 3 playthrough, letting you customize the game to your heart’s content. BG3 Mod Manager is the ultimate tool for it, but after its Patch 7 debut, you might be running into errors when trying to use it.

If the official BG3 Mod Manager is getting stuck on the loading profile screen while booting your game, we’re here to show you how to fix it and get your mods back up and running.

Fixes for the BG3 Mod Manager getting stuck on the loading profile screen

Here are all the solutions we’ve found to this bug in the BG3 Mod Manager:

Delete the modsettings.lsx file

The quickest way to fix the problem is to find the “modsettings.lsx” file and delete it. This file can be found under AppData>Local>Larian Studios>Baldur's Gate 3>PlayerProfiles>Public. Once you’ve navigated to this folder, simply right-click on the file and delete it or drag it to the trash bin.

The BG3 local data folder for mods
Screenshot by Destructoid

Be aware that deleting this will delete your load order. Unfortunately, you will likely need to continue finding and deleting this file every time you need to change your load order or download any new mods.

So, while this is a quick fix, this is a solution you’ll need to continue doing while adding new mods. If you don’t want to lose your load order, you can duplicate the file using the Save Order As option in the BG3 Mod Manager. Keep that file somewhere else on your computer, and load it back up in the manager when you need it.

Uninstall and Reinstall BG3 Mod Manager

The next solution is the tried and true delete it and reinstall it method. Completely uninstall your BG3 Mod Manager to start, and once it’s been removed, remove the modsettings.lsx file from the folder listed above.

Then, you can re-download and install the BG3 Mod Manager, and you shouldn’t be getting stuck on the loading profile screen anymore. For some people, deleting the modsettings.lsx file alone isn’t enough, and this should solve the bug if it’s being stubborn. It gives you a clean slate with the BG3 Mod Manager.

Use the BG3 Patch 6 beta branch

The final solution comes from Larian Studios, who have made a Patch 6 beta branch to play the game in if you don’t want to lose your mods by updating to Patch 7. This will also keep any mods running that haven’t been updated yet for the latest patch, including customization mods, dice mods, and more. Here’s what you can do to run Patch 6:

  • Right-click on Baldur’s Gate 3 in the Steam Library and choose Properties, then Betas
  • On the Beta Participation screen, choose release_patch6_hf9

Since Patch 7 is the root of the issue, by going back to Patch 6, it should solve the problem.

10 Video game guys I’d take out to dinner (and maybe a movie) https://www.destructoid.com/handsome-video-game-guys-id-take-to-diner/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=handsome-video-game-guys-id-take-to-diner https://www.destructoid.com/handsome-video-game-guys-id-take-to-diner/#respond Mon, 16 Sep 2024 22:15:00 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=596786

When a creative's imagination is the limit, there's no shortage of attractive characters in gaming. And when you spend hours, sometimes even dozens or hundreds of them, staring at a protagonist, villain, or trusted companion, it never hurts for them to be easy on the eyes.

Sometimes, I find myself a bit head-over-heels for a few of them, reminiscing about the handsome men I've met on a few of my journeys. While I'm not sure I could fully commit to a relationship with a troubling few of these guys—regrettably, I can't fix him—I’d definitely take them out for a nice dinner date.

10 Video game guys I'd take to dinner, and (maybe) a movie

James Sunderland as he appears in the new Silent Hill 2
Image via Konami

10. James Sunderland from Silent Hill 2

Whether it be just dinner or grabbing coffee, any kind of commitment to James is probably a bad idea, given his track record with Mary in Silent Hill 2. He may have seen it as a mercy killing, or purely out of selfishness to seek a life free from burden, but either way, it's not exactly something I'd be willing to look past.

It's just that I think James could really use the pick-me-up a nice dinner date would give him after the whole being stuck in a haunting mind hell ordeal, you know? Plus, he’s quite easy on the eyes, and dependable if I’m being attacked by the horrific creatures of the eerie town of Silent Hill. So, I’ll take him on a date, but just one.

Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII Remake
Image via Square Enix

9. Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII

Look at that flowing, gorgeous hair. The cool black jacket, the sword, the wings? Obviously, I would say yes to a date with Sephiroth if he asked me, just based on aura alone. You can’t ignore him.

However, this is the only character on this list I probably wouldn’t even enjoy the date with. He’s so consumed by his hatred that I don’t think he could put it aside for even one meal at a cozy bistro in the city. But, seeing as he’s just so pretty, he had to be here.

Johnny Gat in Saint's Row
Image via Volition

8. Johnny Gat from Saint’s Row

Johnny Gat is a murderous gang banger to the extreme. But, he’s a handsome murderous gang banger. And he’s pretty fun to chill out with when he’s just hanging out at the crib with his fellow Saints.

Sadly, Johnny also lost his girl Aisha to the Ronin in Saint’s Row 2, so I’m not so sure he could protect me from those same rival gangs. That’s why a relationship with him would never work out; it's just not practical. Surely, they won’t target me if we go on just one date, right?

Image via Konami

7. Solid Snake from Metal Gear

We love a man who can get things done, and nobody does it as well as Snake. This is the man who makes the impossible, possible after all. Give Snake a mission, and you can bet it’ll be completed, whether it’s a highly classified operation or loading the dishwasher.

Unfortunately, the rapid aging business puts a huge damper on things. Does he still deserve love? Yes. Could I provide it, knowing his lifespan is dramatically shorter than mine thanks to all the espionage? Probably not. So a few nice dates we both enjoy, but move on from, will work.

Red Dead Redemption 2 main character, Arthur Morgan
Image via Rockstar

6. Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2

You could just tell me I’m going on a date with a real cowboy, and I’d be there. But Arthur Morgan? He’s not only a cowboy but a true Wild West heartthrob. We could hunt for dinner ourselves, then enjoy it under the stars by a roaring campfire.

However, there’s one major issue with Arthur: spoiler alert, he’s dead. I'm not really looking to go back in time, either, especially a time so far back I'm lacking modern comforts. And seeing as how the game takes place in 1899, it's just a non-starter. Time may keep us apart, but I can dream about the lovely dinner I’d enjoy with this cowboy.

Master Chief in his iconic green suit (Halo)
Image via 343 Industries

5. Master Chief from Halo

The suit stays on. I don’t need to know what he looks like underneath it. It doesn’t matter. This man almost single-handedly saved all of humanity from both The Covenant and The Flood—that alone would get me out the door and sat in an Olive Garden booth.

Master Chief also has one of the smoothest voices in the history of gaming, and you just know an intimate conversation with him would be music to the ears. I don’t think marrying him would be ideal, though, since if anyone’s committed to their job, it’s him. I’ll go on as many dates with him as I can before the UNSC calls him back yet again.

Wyll, a Warlock companion in BG3
Image via Larian Studios

4. Wyll from Baldur’s Gate 3

I’m sick of everyone talking about Astarion and Gale all the time. Yes, they’re lovely, but you’re missing out on this hunk of a Warlock, Wyll. This folk hero is kind, brave, and will do anything to keep Baldur's Gate safe. Plus, he’s got the whole tortured, dark secret that haunts him every day going for him. All the makings of a great romantic interest.

Now, there is the whole Mizora soul-binding thing to contend with, and I understand how that will turn people away. However, I can look past it. Not forever, but at least for a few romantic steak dinners before we part ways.

Link as he appears in Tears of the Kingdom / BOTW
Image via Nintendo

He’s the Hero of Hyrule and nearly every gamer girl’s first crush, so, obviously, I would take Link out to dinner. Even better, he can just cook dinner for us since he’s got the skills to make things like meat pies in a single cooking pot. There’s a reason nearly everyone in Hyrule is thirsting over him during the Era of the Wild.

There is one issue with Link though, and it’s that he’s very committed to someone already. He is so committed to Princess Zelda that he will, and has, died for her. I’m not willing to get between their relationship, and I don’t think I could. But I’m sure Link can spare me a few dates just to make my thirteen-year-old self happy.

Waluigi, the perfect man to date?
Image via Nintendo

2. Waluigi from Super Mario Bros

I don’t need to explain this one. If you know, you know.

Leon Kennedy in the RE4 Remake
Image via Capcom

1. Leon Kennedy from Resident Evil

How could you look at this man and not want to take him on a date? He’s beautiful. He fights zombies. He’s got some of the most luscious hair in all of gaming. Of course, Leon Kennedy is number one on this list because he’s clearly the best option.

Much like Link, though, Leon seems to already be involved with Ada. Their relationship is far more complicated than Link and Zelda’s, but it’s pretty clear he’s not going to let her go. I hope they can both be happy together, but only after I get my dinner date with Leon first.

How to get the Thick as Thieves Trophy in Astro Bot https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-get-the-thick-as-thieves-trophy-in-astro-bot/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-to-get-the-thick-as-thieves-trophy-in-astro-bot https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-get-the-thick-as-thieves-trophy-in-astro-bot/#respond Tue, 10 Sep 2024 20:37:29 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=595086

The little robot on a mission to save his coworkers in Astro Bot is filled with all sorts of trophies for players to earn. Whether they're the standard trophies you can find in the menu or hidden trophies for those looking for a challenge, there's plenty to achieve.

One of the trophies available is the Thick as Thieves trophy, which can be tricky if you don't know what you're looking for. We're here to help you get the Thick as Thieves trophy in Astro Bot to add to your collection.

How to unlock the Thick as Thieves Trophy

In order to unlock the trophy, you'll need to get a shot of Nathan Drake and Lara Croft in the same photo. These are the two legendary explorers mentioned in the trophy description. To get the photo, head to the Crash Site once you have both bots rescued. You'll also need to have unlocked the camera.

Once you're there, you'll need to get Lara Croft and Nathan Drake to stand close enough to each other to get them in a photo. There are a a few methods of doing this, but the easiest I've found is to head to where Nathan Drake is sitting on the couch playing Dude Raider, and then summon all your rescued bots by pressing Triangle. Keep an eye on Lara Croft while all of your bots are running towards you. She'll be chased by a dinosaur.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Find Lara Croft, and nudge her towards Nathan for the photo. You can push them wherever you want by simply walking into them.

You can then take a picture by hitting up on the D-pad. This will bring up the camera so you can take the shot you need for the achievement. When both Nathan Drake and Lara Croft are in the frame, simply hit R2 and get the picture. You should only need one or two shots for the Astro Bot trophy.

How to get Nathan Drake and Lara Croft in Astro Bot

This trophy will not unlock if they aren't in the same photo, so make sure you get them together. If you take two separate photos, one with Lara and one with Nathan, the trophy will not unlock for you.

You will obviously need the Nathan Drake and Lara Croft bots at your crash site to get this trophy. Lara Croft can be found at the Hieroglitch Pyramid in the Camo Cosmos attempting to loot a chest. Nathan Drake can be found in Serpent Starway, after defeating Lady Venomara. After her last phase in the boss battle, you'll receive a chest, and inside is the Nathan Drake bot.

How long does it take to beat Astro Bot? https://www.destructoid.com/how-long-does-it-take-to-beat-astro-bot/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-long-does-it-take-to-beat-astro-bot https://www.destructoid.com/how-long-does-it-take-to-beat-astro-bot/#respond Mon, 09 Sep 2024 21:15:14 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=594412

A little robot is currently taking the world by storm. Astro Bot, the latest PlayStation exclusive title, lets you take control of the titular bot to rescue his fellow crewmembers and recover their missing CPU after an attack from aliens.

This charming platformer has captivated audiences everywhere, receiving incredible reviews and widespread popularity. If you’re just jumping into the adorable world of Astro Bot, here’s how long you should plan on spending on the game to beat it.

How long does it take to complete Astro Bot?

A typical playthrough for Astro Bot comes in at around 8 to 10 hours. This is the time it takes to beat the main storyline and beat the final boss. However, if you take the time to 100% the game and do the optional objectives, this time will increase.

To reach the final boss, you need to rescue at least 200 bots on your journey through the game. If you don’t save at least 200 bots through your playthrough, you can’t beat it. Luckily, it’s easy to return to missions and find things you missed, so this should be easy.

Image via Team Asobi

Astro Bot has optional levels for you to take part in, such as finding all the puzzle pieces and the ability to rescue more crew members. Of course, there are also plenty of trophies to unlock as well. If you want the full experience the game has to offer, plan on spending anywhere from 14 to 16 hours fully completing Astro Bot

How many levels are there in Astro Bot?

Astro Bot divides the game up into six different galaxies to explore, with a total of 37 levels to complete for the main storyline. These levels are necessary if you want to beat the final boss.

However, there are tons of hidden levels to unlock for players to enjoy. With all the hidden levels and challenges, it totals up to around 80 levels to play. These hidden levels can be accessed a few different ways, such as secret exits in levels and flying over them when exploring the planets in a galaxy.

Astro Bot is a delightful gem of a platformer that takes full advantage of everything the PS5 has to offer. While it’s not particularly long, only taking a few hours to beat, you’ll be having so much fun that you will want to put in the time and effort to snatch up all the collectibles and rescue all the bots.

While it does only take around eight hours to beat at minimum, you’re going to want to put in more time. Using all the abilities as much as you can is simply too much fun to miss out on.

The Dress to Impress lore is actually terrifying https://www.destructoid.com/the-dress-to-impress-lore-is-actually-terrifying/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-dress-to-impress-lore-is-actually-terrifying https://www.destructoid.com/the-dress-to-impress-lore-is-actually-terrifying/#respond Sat, 07 Sep 2024 15:44:40 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=590642

Dress to Impress is one of the most popular games on Roblox to date, with hundreds of thousands of players daily. Players dress up to various themes to be voted on, with players with the highest score finishing on the podium.

Part of the game is being able to change your nail color with a nail technician dutifully waiting to help you out. It’s this nail tech, named Lana, that leads you into the horrifying lore that’s going on underneath the surface of the game.

Seeing as how the story is scattered throughout details in the game, questionnaires held by the official Roblox accounts, videos, and more, it’s tough to keep track of. Here’s the full story of the lore on Dress to Impress, and what’s going on with that creepy nail technician.

Lana lore explained

Screenshot by Destructoid

The lore began on April 1, 2024, during the April Fool’s Day update. Instead of Lana appearing normally, she was crying. On her desk was a journal, where Lana confessed that she hated working as a nail tech at the runway. She said she felt like nobody knew her name and no one appreciated her.

However, it took a turn for the creepy when Lana proclaimed she would get her revenge on all of those who ignored her and that she would set fire to the nail studio. Behind her were missing posters, and next to the diary was a target list. It included many of the developers of Dress to Impress. The important ones to note on the list are the creator of the game, Gigi, and M0T0PRINCESS, who writes most of the lore.

Soon after this update, an official YouTube channel was made by Lana, LanaDoesNails, and unsettling videos began to be posted, filled with red lighting and static. They’re very reminiscent of analog horror. These videos didn’t make a lot of sense to the players when they were first posted, but they’ll be important later on.

Lana airing out all the dirty laundry on the runway caught the attention of the wrong people. On April 20, the next update came out with a new diary on Lana’s desk. It reads that the Lana at the desk is not the real Lana. She’s been replaced by a doppelganger. The reader is then told to find her, with Lana’s Roblox user ID appearing. Go to her page, and you’ll find a creepy game called The Forest where you’ll learn more about Lana’s history. She was drowning in medical debt, and Gigi offered to pay it off if she worked at the runway. But Lana didn’t know the truth about the runway at the time, which was that it was run by a mysterious group called The Awakening.

That same diary says that Dress to Impress is run by this evil group, and they have plans against the player base. Lana created her own group on Roblox, which was meant to be a rebellion against The Awakening, called Saudade. Several accounts were already a part of the group, and many players flocked to join Lana against The Awakening.

The Awakening relates back to Lana’s YouTube. The first video posted what appeared to be security footage before a red and black face appeared on the screen asking why Lana dared to reveal their plans. Since the video was titled Awakening, it’s not hard to infer that it’s the same group threatening Lana that runs the game.

More questions than answers

Lana would hold questionnaires in her server with the players, answering questions about both groups. However, something was off in these questionnaires. One day, Lana would be wearing an eyepatch, and then the next claim she’d never worn an eyepatch in her life. She would give conflicting answers, even claiming that The Awakening wasn’t evil at all after saying Gigi and The Awakening wanted to use the player base for human experiments.

It turns out that players were not speaking to the same Lana the entire time. Someone was cloning Lana, and different doppelgangers would show up and answer questions. Lana’s account and the Saudade group would post that someone was taking over Lana’s account and using her for their own means, including sacrificing the members of Saudade.

Lana then does something wild — she begins holding executions of her group members in her questionnaire server. No, I’m not kidding. She executed three Saudade members before M0T0PRINCESS held her own questionnaire, claiming that Lana was using the body parts of those killed to make herself stronger.

In the final questionnaire, two former Saudade members kill Lana. Or they at least killed one of the Lanas.

A YouTube video titled The Last Serenade was posted quickly afterward. This video reveals that Lana is still out there and leads players to a portal at the end. This portal brings you to The Fortress server, where you can explore rooms that give us a huge look at what’s actually happening through the various notes on the walls and

The Beast Within

Screenshot by Destructoid

Lana’s doppelgangers, and subsequently everything awful that’s been happening with The Awakening, have been orchestrated by a massive Eldritch monster named Agamemnon. This creature has been the one creating all the Lanas to do their bidding, using the body parts to gain strength, and likely is who really started The Awakening. Agamemnon manipulates the Lanas in an attempt to reach his pure form.

This was further confirmed by another video, which shows how Agamemnon manipulated Lana into trusting him and doing what he wanted.

Hints of Agamemnon can be found in the Dress to Impress servers, such as walking through the wall into what’s referred to as the meat room (which many theorize is Agamemnon’s stomach) or entering Freeplay Mode and finding the mural which shows a horrifying, massive red and black creature. This is Agamemnon.

In the Summer Update for the game, a new diary was found. It simply repeated “I love my job” repeatedly. On the next page, “I don’t feel the plague” is written. This relates back to Agamemnon, who started a group called The Plague. Lana is also in this group, and we have yet to find out what The Plague plans to do.

This leads us to the most recent lore in the September 1 update. Lana has been entirely replaced by a new nail tech, Lina. If you walk through a spot in the wall in the nail room,  you’ll drop down to a floor below where a Lana is being held in a cage, next to an empty one labeled for another Lana.

The Plague is coming

While there’s still a lot to be uncovered, this is what we can take from the lore. Dress to Impress is being run by a cult called The Awakening, which serves to help the creature Agamemnon gain strength to reach its true form. Lana has been cloned many times to aid in this, but some of the clones are going rogue and trying to warn the players before Agamemnon can gain enough strength.

What’s still a mystery is whose side Lana is really on. Is she being manipulated into thinking she’s doing what’s right? Or is she evil? Is the real Lana trying to stop all this but isn’t able to? What happens if Agamemnon gains full power?

A good guess is that The Plague is the chaos that will reign down upon the Earth if Agamemnon reaches its true form. However, I don't know how this would be shown in a game about dressing up in cute clothes. We’re hopeful that the upcoming Halloween Update will give us answers, but nothing is for certain.

On the surface, Dress to Impress seems like a simple fashion game that anyone can play and enjoy. However, next time you’re getting ready to slay the runway, don’t forget about what’s going on underneath the floorboards.

The next Sims 4 expansion pack Life and Death arrives just in time for Halloween https://www.destructoid.com/sims-4-expansion-pack-life-and-death-launches-for-halloween/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=sims-4-expansion-pack-life-and-death-launches-for-halloween https://www.destructoid.com/sims-4-expansion-pack-life-and-death-launches-for-halloween/#respond Thu, 05 Sep 2024 21:52:58 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=592287

If you’re looking for new spooky experiences for your Sims, then EA has you covered as the latest expansion pack for The Sims 4 has been announced on their official news blog. On October 31, Life and Death will arrive so that your Sims can get acquainted with the end of life.

It’s still vague on what the expansion will be about, although we can assume it will be Halloween-themed due to its release date. Players can tune in on October 3 for a first look at the new pack, which should reveal many of the new gameplay features, new items, and more. Hopefully, we’ll even get some brand-new deaths for Simmers to try out.

Along with the new expansion, two new kits were also announced alongside, Storybook Nursery Kit and Artist Studio Kit. Both kits will be released on September 19, and all this new content is under the umbrella of the Season of To Be Continued. The season seems to be centered around the autumn months, with warm mugs of hot chocolate and tarot cards being the background for the announcement video. Very festive, indeed.

Players will also be able to enjoy a new event centered around the Grim Reaper, the Reaper’s Rewards Event. This event will begin on September 24, where players will assist the Grim Reaper and earn rewards for their hard work. More information on the event is expected to be released as the start date draws closer.

Players can also expect more free updates to come along during the season as well, for an on-going parade of new content to please fans. We don’t know much about these updates or when they are coming out, but seeing as how the Season of To Be Continued has already started, we can likely expect more news to come out soon.

The Sims 4 has been steadily releasing new expansion packs for years now since the game’s release in 2014, with the latest spicy Lovestruck expansion pack being released in July. The game shows no signs of slowing down even as development chugs along with Project Renee, the codename for The Sims 5The Sims 4 base game is available for free on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation now. If you’ve never given the series a shot, it’s a great time as ever to jump into the life simulator and get ready for some new spooky content.

New trailer for Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom shows off the Still World, swordfighting, and more https://www.destructoid.com/new-trailer-for-legend-of-zelda-echoes-of-wisdom-shows-off-the-still-world-swordfighting-and-more/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=new-trailer-for-legend-of-zelda-echoes-of-wisdom-shows-off-the-still-world-swordfighting-and-more https://www.destructoid.com/new-trailer-for-legend-of-zelda-echoes-of-wisdom-shows-off-the-still-world-swordfighting-and-more/#respond Fri, 30 Aug 2024 19:29:48 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=588526

For fans who were concerned they wouldn't be taking part in some good old-fashioned swordfighting in Echoes of Wisdom, your worries are over.

The highly anticipated next entry in the Legend of Zelda franchise, Echoes of Wisdom, dropped a new trailer today with an in-depth look at some major gameplay features. Most notably, it gave us a look at the Still World, Echoes of Wisdom's equivalent to the Dark World from previous titles, and Zelda's Swordfighter Form, which allows her to do combat with a sword and shield.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUdJF8gyO4A

The Still World is where Link and other inhabitants of Hyrule have been whisked away to, as the rifts open up around the kingdom. Inside, there will be floating islands (similar to those found in Tears of the Kingdom) that were taken from the land. Zelda can traverse these islands while saving the land, and it appears that at least a few dungeons will take place in the Still World.

Zelda can fight with a sword in Echoes of Wisdom

Zelda's Swordfighter ability allows her to temporarily fight with a sword and shield after picking up the Mysterious Sword. This sword looks similar to Link's from the trailer, so it's not unlikely that it's his sword she's found. Zelda will transform into her Swordfighter form, dress up like Link, and be able to do traditional combat.

This form does have a time limit though, and you'll need to pick up energy in the Still World to replenish the ability. Having a sword might be a huge relief for gamers who were worried traditional combat was removed from this entry in the Zelda franchise.

Finally, we got a look at some of the NPCs Zelda will encounter on her journey, including Dampe, an inventor who can provide gadgets for Zelda; Tri, the fairy-like creature that accompanies Zelda through her adventure; and a brief look at a Great Fairy. The Princess of Hyrule will meet with other interesting characters, such as the Gerudo, River and Sea Zora, and Deku Scrubs, all of which can be seen in the latest trailer.

Echoes of Wisdom will be released exclusively for the Switch on September 26, 2024. With Zelda as the main character and tons of unique features like Echoes and the Bind ability, it could shape up to be quite an interesting addition to the Zelda series.

How to get the Turtle Tear for Turtle Quest in Black Myth: Wukong https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-get-the-turtle-tear-for-turtle-quest-in-black-myth-wukong/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-to-get-the-turtle-tear-for-turtle-quest-in-black-myth-wukong https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-get-the-turtle-tear-for-turtle-quest-in-black-myth-wukong/#respond Thu, 29 Aug 2024 21:35:57 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=588028

There are a whole host of sidequests you can find while you journey through the story of Black Myth: Wukong. As soon as you start, there are multiple ones you can pick up and complete to your heart’s content for a slew of rewards.

The Turtle Tear quest can be found in Chapter Three, granting you a sweet Soak if you complete it. If you’re having trouble locating the Turtle Tear and completing the side quest, we’re here to help.

Where to find the Turtle Tear in Black Myth: Wukong

The Turtle Tear will appear at the North Shore of the Bitter Lake Keeper Shrine after defeating the Apramana Bat. To get to this boss, you need to follow the right path. When you arrive at the North Shore, go right to the water and follow the shore.

You’ll come across some massive snake skeletons in the snow. Keep going and you’ll find the main body, where the skull of the snake skeleton is. This is where the Apramana Bat will appear and attack you on sight.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Be aware that this boss will only appear so long as Zhu Bajie is with you, who joins you when you travel to the North Shore. If you go too far on the shore and lose Zhu Bajie, this boss will not show up at all, so be aware it’s possible to entirely miss him.

Luckily, this boss fight shouldn’t be too difficult. Try keeping the Apramana Bat on the ground instead of in the sky, and you won’t have trouble taking him down. He’ll shoot many ranged attacks at you, so use the Immobilize spell to your advantage and keep the bat close.

Once you’ve defeated the Apramana Bat, interact with the large skeleton at the skull. The Turtle will shed a tear that falls along the shore of the Bitter Lake. This is the Turtle Tear you’re looking for.

Reward for Turtle Tear quest in Black Myth: Wukong

Now that the tear has been shed, you can head to where it fell on the ground. It’s hard to miss, as it glows a green-blue color all around the area. If you are having trouble, though, go directly under the Turtle’s head.

Pick it up, and you’re given the Soak. This Epic Soak recovers a moderate amount of Mana for you when you use the Gourd at full health. It’s great for Mana until you get further into the game, so you should consider picking up the Turtle Tear. Overall, the quest is not difficult and gives you a solid item for your trouble.

All Sims 4 townies based on MySims characters https://www.destructoid.com/all-sims-4-townies-based-on-mysims-characters/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=all-sims-4-townies-based-on-mysims-characters https://www.destructoid.com/all-sims-4-townies-based-on-mysims-characters/#respond Wed, 28 Aug 2024 23:32:34 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=587259

With the announcement of the retro rerelease of MySims, everyone is excited to relive their favorite memories in the coziest spin-off of The Sims series. Making friends with neighbors, designing houses, and building up your town are all a part of the fun.

However, for those who are newer to the franchise and have only played The Sims 4, you might be surprised at the familiar faces you can find in MySims. Here are all the townies who got their start in the cute spin-off games first.

All Sims 4 townies you can meet in MySims

Candy Behr, one of the MySims NPCs

Candy Behr

Before she was the world of Windenburg’s greatest DJ, Candy had a different name, DJ Candy Supergroove in MySims. While they look a bit different, they both share the same name and love of DJing. In MySims, she’ll return to town and open up Club Candy, the most popular nightclub out there.

In Widenburg, she lives with her sister teenage sister Yuki, and co-workers Joaqui and Dominic. She mainly spends her time DJing, as she works in the entertainer career, but she also loves dancing. You can even find DJ Candy’s MySims trophy in her room.

Yuki Behr as she appears in-game in MySims

Yuki Behr

Much like her older sister, Yuki also got her start in MySims. While they are the same person, in Sims 4 Yuki is quite different from her counterpart. For starters, Yuki isn’t related to Candy in MySims, and has a drastically different appearance, with dark hair and skin and a love of the dark and spooky.

Yuki Behr, on the other hand, loves video gaming and hacking. While the two aren’t particularly similar, simply sharing a name, you can find Yuki’s trophy in Yuki Behr’s room, confirming that both characters are just alternate versions of each other.

Liberty Lee

Liberty Lee

The BFF household found in Willow Creek in Sims 4 is actually just one big reference to the MySims series. Liberty is an aspiring astronaut who loves all things geeky, which is pretty close to how she is in MySims

Liberty also appears very similar to her chibi counterpart, with a green hat, pigtails, and bright yellow pants. Her geeky personality remains her primary trait, and even the love triangle between her, Summer, and Travis that began in MySims Kingdom is brought over.

Summer Holiday

Summer Holiday

Summer, much like Liberty, is one of the three members of the BFF household found in the fourth installment of the series. She’s a young adult who loves cooking, which is a bit of a departure from the Summer she was inspired by.

In MySims, Summer is instead a bright and peppy cheerleader. While her physical appearance remains consistent, with blonde hair and preppy blue clothing, her personality changes quite a bit. In fact, in MySims, Summer dislikes the tasty interest, which includes cooking and baking.

Travis Scott

Travis Scott

The final member of the BFF household is one of the most faithful to his MySims counterpart, retaining the same interests, personality, and appearance. In fact, Travis looks practically identical in The Sims 4 to how he appears in the spin-off.

Travis also keeps his love of programming and gaming, although in MySims he’s a former CEO always on the hunt for the latest and greatest tech around. The love triangle from MySims follows the characters to the fourth game, and you’re given free rein on whether Travis chooses Liberty or Summer, or neither (or both, thanks to the different romance dynamics).

Chaz MacFreeling

Chaz MacFreeling

While this Sim isn’t initially placed anywhere, the team officially released him on the gallery for you to play with to your heart’s content. Chaz MacFreeling is Princess Cordelia’s second pirate boyfriend, who is incredibly well-groomed, but also incredibly vain.

This character may be a reference to Chaz McFreely, a daredevil Sim that you can invite to be a resident of your town in MySims. While the two vary in personality and appearance quite drastically, there’s no denying that The Sims 4 is likely referencing the MySims character with a name that close.

Vincent Skullfinder

Bonus – Vincent Skullfinder

Okay, let me explain. You can’t actually find Vincent as a townie in Sims 4. However, if you reach level nine in the archaeology skill included with Jungle Adventures, you’ll receive various artifacts from Sir Vincent Skullfinder to identify. This matches up with his MySims counterpart, who is a famous archaeologist and explorer who loves digging up new fossils.

So, while he doesn’t appear officially as a premade Sim, he still gets his spot in the game as long as you have the game pack installed. He also appears in The Sims 3, as a deceased Sim in Sunset Valley’s graveyard.

There’s no denying that Star Wars games always draw a big crowd, and the new Star Wars Outlaws is sure to follow this pattern. With a huge open world for you to explore, there’s plenty of gameplay to get excited about.

If you’re as excited as we are to get your hands on Star Wars Outlaws, you’re going to need to know which platform or console you can play it on. We’ve got the info for you right here.

What platforms is Star Wars Outlaws available on?

These are all the platforms and consoles that you can pick up Star Wars Outlaws for come release day on August 30, 2024:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X/S
  • Windows

The game and all of its special editions will be released on all of these platforms simultaneously, so there’s no need to worry about a different console getting a head start on the story before you can grab your copy.

These are also the only platforms on which the game has been confirmed to appear. If you don’t own any of these consoles or a Windows computer, you’re unfortunately out of luck if you want to play the latest Star Wars title.

Is Star Wars Outlaws on previous generation consoles?

Image via Massive Entertainment

No, Star Wars Outlaws will not be released on the previous generation of consoles, including PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This is likely due to the technical limitations of the older consoles not being able to handle the game. There are other Star Wars games available on the PS4 and Xbox One, like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Is Star Wars Outlaws coming to Nintendo Switch?

No, as of right now, there have been no plans announced to bring Star Wars Outlaws to the Nintendo Switch. While there are a handful of Star Wars games you are able to play on Switch, Outlaws will not be one of them.

The open world of Star Wars Outlaws lets you dive into the universe during the time between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, where you play as Kay Vess. This young outlaw is looking to pay off a crime syndicate and is assembling one of the biggest heists in order to do so. Check out our review in progress so you can see if the game lives up to all the hype it’s getting.

How to complete the Drunken Pig Quest in Black Myth: Wukong https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-complete-the-drunken-pig-quest-in-black-myth-wukong/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-to-complete-the-drunken-pig-quest-in-black-myth-wukong https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-complete-the-drunken-pig-quest-in-black-myth-wukong/#respond Thu, 22 Aug 2024 21:37:18 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=583599

There are tons of side quests you can embark on as you journey through Black Myth: Wukong, taking down enormous bosses and exploring mythical China. One of the many quests you can find is sobering up the Drunken Pig, which can be found while you’re playing through Chapter Two. If you need help completing this task, we’re here to help you out.

Where to find the Drunken Pig in Black Myth: Wukong

To complete the side quest, you first have to find the Drunken Pig. You can do so at the Rockrest Flat Checkpoint during Chapter Two, which is at Fright Cliff. Once you’ve traveled to that point, continue heading forward through the cliffs.

You’ll pass a few enemies and eventually find a crop of rocks. This is where the Drunken Boar is lounging. Interact with him and he’ll demand you find something to sober him up.

How to sober up the Drunk Pig in Black Myth: Wukong

Screenshot by Destructoid

In order to sober up the Drunken Boar, you’ll need to obtain the Sobering Stone. You can collect one at the Windrest Bridge at the Yellow Wind Formation. Travel to this location and head forward across the bridge.

From there, go up the stairs into the village. Turn left to find more stairs and continue heading forward past the rock jutting out. On the right, there will be even more stairs you’ll climb, up to a gateway. Through this gateway and to the left is a small shack with a fire burning outside.

Inside this shack is a pot you can break open, which will contain one Sobering Stone.

If you have the Man-In-Stone unlocked as a merchant, you can also purchase one directly from his shop. However, you will need to have his quests completed to be able to buy items from him. If you haven’t done this yet, I recommend simply picking up the one at the Windrest Bridge.

How to complete the Drunken Boar questline in Black Myth: Wukong

Return back to the Rockrest Flat and give the Sobering Stone to the Drunk Pig. He’ll get up and thank you, before heading off to find some food. The next time you see him at the Crouching Tiger Temple, you’ll need to have some food for him.

What you need to feed him is a Jade Lotus. You can purchase this from the store at the Temple Entrance Shrine if you want, but chances are you’ve already come across this plant while gathering resources. It can be found in the water at the start of Chapter Two.

Inside of the Crouching Tiger Temple, turn right before going up to the Tiger Vanguard boss. You’ll find the Drunk Pig resting here, and you can give him the Jade Lotus you’ve collected. Once you do, he’ll give you some gold.

Return to where you first found the Drunken Boar, and you find the Yellow-Robed Squire. This is the brother of the Drunk Pig. Defeat him and he’ll open the gate to the Secret Kingdom of Sahali — which is now a desolate wasteland. However, this secret area is filled with bosses and treasures. It's a great farming location if you're looking for one.

You will get the Snout Mask as a reward for your troubles, which will moderately increase your Attack after using the Gourd. Not a bad trinket to receive for all your hard work.

10 terrifying fun facts about P.T., 10 years later https://www.destructoid.com/10-terrifying-fun-facts-about-p-t-10-years-later/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=10-terrifying-fun-facts-about-p-t-10-years-later https://www.destructoid.com/10-terrifying-fun-facts-about-p-t-10-years-later/#respond Thu, 22 Aug 2024 16:47:16 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=582786

It’s the tenth anniversary of the greatest horror game that never was. The playable teaser for the canceled Silent Hills, better known as P.T., is one of the most well-regarded horror games out there despite being able to be completed in under 20 minutes. In fact, it's one of the best PS4 games in history.

Now that it’s been ten years since its release, there are tons of secrets and easter eggs gamers have uncovered. Each new bit of information makes the game even scarier than before, and that’s no small feat. Here are the most terrifying fun facts about P.T. in honor of its ten-year anniversary.

10 spooky fun facts about P.T. for its 10-year anniversary

1. A legendary collaboration

Most fans are well aware that Hideo Kojima, the mind behind the Metal Gear series, was the director behind P.T., and was meant to direct Silent Hills. However, he wasn’t the only mastermind behind the teaser. Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro also worked on P.T. with Kojima. He is well known for creating terrifying creatures such as the ones in Pan’s Labyrinth and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. It certainly made for a horrifying triumph.

2. You’re never alone

Throughout the game, the player is stalked by a terrifying ghost commonly referred to as Lisa, presumably the murdered wife. She has some of the best jump scares in gaming, but as modders like Lance McDonald have found, she’s around more than we initially thought.

After picking up the flashlight in the bathroom, Lisa’s model actually follows you for nearly your entire playthrough, staying directly behind you so you’re never able to see her. You can check it out in this Twitter clip. You can spot her twitching shadow often but not catch sight of her. No wonder the radio was telling players to look behind you.

3. 204863

Players will quickly find a radio in the hallway loop, where a radio broadcaster gives players all sorts of details and clues. One of the most puzzling is the repeating of the number 204863.

What does this number mean? While there are many theories about it (including the date being Kojima’s birthday), dabura667 posted a theory on the GameFAQs board that the number is actually a Japanese anagram. Using the numbers, it roughly translates to “ofuroba miyo”, meaning “look at the bathtub”. What’s the player supposed to find there? We don’t know, and we’re not sure we want to find out.

4. Rattling the door

Most players will remember the three scripted encounters where you’re guaranteed to see Lisa — when she appears standing in the hallway, when zooming in on the gap in the bathroom door, and when she’s looking down on you after the window crashes on the floor. All other times you see her are randomized. However, thanks again to Lance McDonald, we know that there’s a fourth spot where Lisa is guaranteed to appear.

This is when you’re locked in the bathroom, and the door is rattled by someone trying to get in. By breaking the camera away from its locked first-person view, McDonald found that this is actually Lisa and not just an effect. She eerily shambles down the hallway, jostles the door, and continues on her way. Even though in normal gameplay, you can’t spot her, it’s awfully unsettling just knowing she’s out there.

5. Lisa doesn’t want you outside

Speaking of boundary-breaking, you’ll get an unpleasant surprise if you use it to break out of the hallway loop. By going outside, you’ll drop off the world and then get jumpscared by Lisa taking down the player. This is completely unexpected, and the development team likely added this as a gotcha moment to scare boundary breakers. I don't think I would recover if I didn’t know about this and tried it myself.

6. That's gross

The hallway radio often drops hints about what happened to Lisa and the cause of the endless hallway nightmare. A father murdered his pregnant wife and children, then took his own life with a garden hose noose. However, if you listen closely, when the radio is describing the father’s suicide, a darker voice can be heard underneath it that says that the dad hung himself with an umbilical cord

The game alludes to there being multiple realities, and it’s possible that in one of the realities, this is how the father/murderer died. Either way, that couldn't have been pleasant for the CSI team to find.

7. Gouge it out!

One of the many puzzles is found early in the game, where you interact with a photo of Lisa on the table. Do so, and a bloody hole will appear on Lisa’s eye with the words “gouge it out!”. Obviously, this implies that Lisa’s eye was ripped out. This isn’t the last we see of her eye, though.

Later in the game, when you’re moving fast in the infinity hallway, eyeballs can be seen endlessly twirling in the picture frames. This is likely Lisa’s eye that was gouged out, showing that now she’s always watching you.

8. Inspiring a whole new generation of horror

Despite only being a teaser, P.T. has made a huge mark on gaming, inspiring countless other horror games. Not only is there an easter egg referencing the teaser in Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, but games like Spooky’s Jumpscare Mansion and Visage take inspiration from the character design and labyrinthic hallway. Some even argue that the playable teaser inspired Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 8, with elements like claustrophobic corridors and first-person being in the games.

Hallway radio in PT

9. I’m not saying it’s aliens, but…

The radio continues to scare you as you progress further into the game, becoming distorted and even demonic. At one point, the radio begins chanting in Swedish. Thanks to translation, though, it turns out it’s actually a reference to The War of the Worlds radio play, whose broadcast in 1938r sent listeners into a panic, believing aliens were really arriving to conquer us.

The radio in the game says that the broadcast was true, and that “They are here on our Earth”. Aliens have always been a part of the Silent Hill series, with tons of secret UFO endings across the games. It’s awesome that this easter egg even made its way into P.T.

10. The limited window of release

While it’s famous for its incredible direction, P.T. is also known for its rarity. Originally released in August 2014, after Kojima’s firing from Konami and the subsequent cancellation of Silent Hills, it was announced that the game would be removed from the PlayStation Store. In May 2015, P.T. was excised entirely and never made available again.

If you didn’t download it during the few months it was available, you wouldn’t have the chance to do so anymore. While several fan projects have made it available, they’ve been taken down by Konami due to legal issues. There’s nothing scarier than a masterpiece you cannot experience.

How to get Silk and upgrade your armor in Black Myth: Wukong https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-get-silk-and-upgrade-your-armor-in-black-myth-wukong/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-to-get-silk-and-upgrade-your-armor-in-black-myth-wukong https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-get-silk-and-upgrade-your-armor-in-black-myth-wukong/#respond Tue, 20 Aug 2024 21:57:12 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=581899

Taking on the massive bosses that you’ll come across on your journey through Black Myth: Wukong is no small task. You’re going to need to be strong and swift to beat them all, as well as have tough armor to keep yourself safe.

To upgrade your armor though, one of the materials you’re going to need Silk. If you don’t know where to look, this can be an elusive material. Luckily, we’re here to show you how you can get Silk and how to use it.

Where to find Silk in Black Myth: Wukong

The main way for you to get Silk is by defeating enemies. However, since Silk is a rare drop, you’re not likely to pick up a lot of it in the early game. When you reach Chapter Two, you’ll have much better luck. This is because the enemies drop rarer materials.

You can also find Silk by opening chests and pots. Occasionally these will contain Silk when they’re opened, however this is not guaranteed at any location. Open up any of these chests or pots you come across since it’s worth picking up the materials inside.

There is a special location you can pick up Silk from in Chapter One, and that’s the merchant at the Keeper’s Shrine in the Secret Ancient Guanyin Temple — Grand Chamber. When you arrive at the Keeper’s Shrine, select the store and there will be two Silk available for you to purchase.

How to farm Silk in Black Myth: Wukong

Screenshot by Destructoid

The best location for farming Silk is anywhere in Chapter Two. Enemies regularly drop Silk upon defeat during the second chapter. To farm it, simply continue killing any enemies you come across.

Killing as many enemies as you can in Chapter Two ensures that you have a solid supply of Silk for the later chapters, where you’ll need to upgrade your armor.

How to use Silk to upgrade armor in Black Myth: Wukong

To upgrade your armor, you’ll need to have Yin Tiger unlocked in the Painted Realm. This area isn’t available until Chapter Three, and you’ll need to complete the right quests to get to him.

To unlock the Painted Realm, find Xu Dog during Chapter Two near the Village Entrance of Sandgate Village. Talk to him and defeat the Lang-li-Guh-Baw boss for him. You’ll find him later in the story in the Cellar of the Crouching Tiger Temple.

The next NPC you need to find to unlock the Painted Realm is Chen Loong, which can be done after you defeat the boss Kang-Jin Star. You can find him under the turtle’s head on the beach. Defeat him and give him the special pill you can purchase from Xu Dog.

You can now travel to the Painted Realm, where talking with Yin Tiger will upgrade your armor for you. Several armors require Silk for upgrades, where you can finally put your Silk to good use. Just like upgrading your Gourd, upgrading your armor will make you stronger and able to survive.

How to get the Coded Sword in Elden Ring https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-get-the-coded-sword-in-elden-ring/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-to-get-the-coded-sword-in-elden-ring https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-get-the-coded-sword-in-elden-ring/#respond Thu, 15 Aug 2024 21:35:23 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=578748

How good you are at Elden Ring comes down to how well you can fight the terrifying enemies that roam the land, so a good Sword Lance is handy. With the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, there are plenty available for you to choose from.

The Coded Sword is one of the best you can find, and for good reason. This weapon is fantastic for dealing Holy damage, and luckily, it’s not hard to get your hands on. We’re here to show you where to find the Coded Sword.

Where to find the Coded Sword in Elden Ring

The Coded Sword can be found on a throne inside the Leyndell Royal Capital. The West Capital Rampart Site of Grace is the closest, so if you have this one unlocked, simply fast-travel to it, or make your way there on your own. If you're having trouble, the West Capital Rampart is marked on the map below.

Screenshot by Destructoid

From this Site of Grace, head outside and to the right to be taken down a flight of stairs, and go down the next flight of stairs directly ahead. Go forward through the small hallway until it opens up to the outside and turn left onto the small platform outside. Jump down onto the roof below, and then the ground.

You’ll be on a pathway covered with fallen bricks. Go up this pathway and jump onto the wooden shed roof to the right, and up into the stone castle again. There will be an entrance slightly to the left, and you can go inside.

Once you’re inside again, turn left. You’ll go through the room with the fireplace and in the next room with the cabinet and armor, take the door on the right. In the next room, circle halfway around the large roundtable and into the doorway on the left.

Inside this room is the throne you’re looking for, with an item you can pick up situated directly on it. Pick this up, and it’s the Coded Sword you’ve been looking for.

Coded Sword Location in Elden Ring

The room inside the Royal Capital of Leyndell is the only location you’re able to pick up the Coded Sword, so don’t worry about running around to other spots. It’s important to note that you need to pick up this sword before you defeat Maliketh, because you cannot get it in Leyndell, Ashen Capital.

The Coded Sword scales entirely with Faith and has the Unblockable Blade Weapon Skill. It deals incredible Holy damage, and while it doesn't have the range of a bow, you still get ranged attacks that you normally wouldn’t get with a one-handed sword. It’s definitely worth picking up, even if you’re just kicking off your playthrough.

How to play as The Goat in Cult of the Lamb: Unholy Alliance https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-play-as-the-goat-in-cult-of-the-lamb-unholy-alliance/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-to-play-as-the-goat-in-cult-of-the-lamb-unholy-alliance https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-play-as-the-goat-in-cult-of-the-lamb-unholy-alliance/#respond Wed, 14 Aug 2024 17:06:23 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=577498

The Unholy Alliance update for Cult of the Lamb has brought a slew of new content to the game, including the long-awaited local multiplayer so you can play with friends. As The Lamb and The Goat, you and your friend can take on all sorts of challenges together.

However, if you’re looking to spice things up in your game, or just don’t have anyone else to play with but still want to see The Goat, you can switch to playing as The Goat during single-player mode. Here’s how you unlock The Goat for play, both in single-player and multiplayer.

How to unlock The Goat in Single-Player Mode Cult of the Lamb: Unholy Alliance

To unlock The Goat fleece, you will need to enable co-op. Connect a second controller to your console so The Goat appears in your game. You do not need to have a second player, just a second controller.

Now that co-op is enabled, you need to die. You can be in single-player now. Go into any Crusade you want and simply do not fight back when attacked by enemies. You’ll die and be transported to a white realm with a large black pool of liquid ahead of you.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Walk up to the cursed statue of The Goat and choose to interact. You’ll go through some dialogue first, and then several Corrupted Tarots and Relics will be unlocked. You can read through each of them to find out the bonuses. Once you’ve respawned, leave, or finish the Crusade.

Head to the Temple and interact with the Temple Altar. Open the Crown menu and you’ll be shown that The Goat is now available. Equip it to begin playing as The Lamb’s wicked counterpart.

Be aware that it does cost 5 Sin to unlock The Goat, which you can obtain by absolving your followers. Sin can be difficult to farm since you risk followers becoming Damned, but if you have the Violent Extremist trait you can earn Sin from defeating Crusade bosses.

How to play as The Goat in co-op Cult of the Lamb: Unholy Alliance

If you want to be The Goat in co-op while your friend is The Lamb, it's easy. All you need to do is be added to the game by:

  • Pausing the game
  • Selecting "Add Co-op Player"
  • Selecting the device and choosing The Goat

The second player will automatically spawn in the game as The Goat. There's no way to change that the first player is The Lamb and the second is The Goat, but feel free to switch controllers if you want.

How to get The Goat fleece in Cult of the Lamb: Unholy Alliance

These are the only two methods of playing as The Goat available in the game. Playing as The Goat doesn’t give you any bonuses, as it’s merely a cosmetic change. The Lamb will be swapped for The Goat seen in multiplayer mode, but nothing else will change about your abilities or skills.

You are able to switch back to The Lamb whenever you want by going back into the Crown menu at the Temple Altar and switching to a different fleece while in single-player mode. This will remove The Goat skin and transform you back into The Lamb.

How to get the Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword in Shadow of the Erdtree https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-get-the-ancient-meteoric-ore-greatsword-in-shadow-of-the-erdtree/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-to-get-the-ancient-meteoric-ore-greatsword-in-shadow-of-the-erdtree https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-get-the-ancient-meteoric-ore-greatsword-in-shadow-of-the-erdtree/#respond Thu, 08 Aug 2024 21:37:48 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=574796

With a slew of new weapons introduced in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC released for Elden Ring, you’ll have your pick of the litter when it comes to which one you want to take. There are plenty to choose from, like Devona's Hammer.

One of the best you can find is the Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword, perfect for those who focus on Dexterity and Strength. If you need help locating this Colossal Sword, we’re here to show you how to get it in your inventory.

Where to find Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword

The only way to get the Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword is at the altar of the Ruined Forge of Starfall Past. Once you find the altar, all you need to do is examine it to receive the sword for you to use.

To get to the altar, go to the Ruined Forge of Starfall Past minor dungeon, which is found just slightly to the southeast of Castle Ensis. You can use one of the Sites of Grace to travel there fast. You can also use the Moorth Ruins Site of Grace and travel southwest if you want to get there.

The exact location of the Ruined Forge of Starfall Past is marked on the map below.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Once you’re at the Ruined Forged of Starfall Past, head inside through the hole in the wall and go down the ladder. Once you’re at the Site of Grace, go through the archway and across the bridge to pull the lever to the left. Follow the passage this opens.

Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword Location

You’ll come to a large room with a second floor. Past the pile of stones and to the right, there is another long passage you can follow. Be aware that if you haven’t cleared them out, you will have to fight some enemies in these corridors. Find the ladder in the second corridor, and climb it.

Continue following the path up past the lava and up the rubble, and you’ll end up on a large metal platform. Down below, on the right side, drop down to the bridge. Across it, pull the lever and you’ll be lowered down again. In the archway to the right, there is another lever for you to pull. This will let you raise up to the second floor on the right, where the altar is.

Screenshot by Destructoid

As mentioned, all you need to do is interact with the altar to receive the Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword.

Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword Skill

The Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword is a Colossal Sword that scales with Strength, Dexterity, and Arcane. Arcane specifically will increase the physical and magic damage of this sword, so if you’re an Arcane focus, this is a great choice.

This weapon’s skill is White Light Charge, which lets you create a charging attack with white light that works great for piercing enemies. You'll get plenty of thrusting damage like you would with a Heavy Thrusting Sword such as the Sword Lance.

This Colossal Sword packs a real punch, so be sure to pick it up if you’re in the area. Just make sure you've completed Castle Ensis first.

It’s never been a better time to get romantic than now with The Sims 4: Lovestruck out for players. There are tons of new gameplay features to check out that let your Sims get saucy and keep you entertained for hours.

That being said, of course, some additions come out on top and make Lovestruck worth getting. If you’re on the fence about whether to snag this expansion, we’ve got the best features included in the pack right here.

The best new features included in The Sims 4: Lovestruck

10. Ciudad Enamorada

With every new expansion comes a new world for your Sims to live in and explore, and Ciudad Enamorada is a beautiful one. A large sprawling city inspired by Mexico, Ciudad Enamorada is the perfect place for your romantic Sims to get it on. This world is quite lovely, and while we wish it had a few more lots, it’s still a gorgeous place to make your Sim’s home.

9. Romantic Blanket

It’s about time we had the ability for our Sims to WooHoo literally anywhere they wanted. While there are plenty of WooHoo spots already, the Romantic Blanket gives your Sims the freedom to do it wherever they want. Literally, place this blanket anywhere or take it with you to WooHoo in the middle of the street if you wish.

8. Love Hotel

Another new WooHoo location, the Love Hotel in Ciudad Enamorada, known as Beso Rápido, is a sleazy hotel meant for quick romantic encounters. Sadly, it’s just a rabbit hole, and you can’t follow your Sims inside, but the inclusion of a love hotel can add all sorts of drama to your Sim’s life.

7. Costume Trunk

Costume trunks certainly aren’t for kids anymore. The García Amor Costume Trunk lets your Sims play dress up, and it’s not for Halloween. You’ll be able to unlock new WooHoo interactions with the costumes on, and it’s a great way to spice up your Sim’s date night.

6. Wallpapers and Flooring

While all Sims 4 packs come with plenty of new Build Mode items, Lovestruck’s array of new wallpaper and flooring options is truly something marvelous. Paying tribute to the gaudy décor of The Sims: Livin’ Large, you can turn your home into the tackiest spot in town, and we love it. Animal print wallpaper and bright shag carpet? Sign us up.

5. Vibrating Heart Bed

Every single game in the Sims franchise now is complete with the classic vibrating heart bed being added with Lovestruck. There’s no better place to get steamy with your partner than with this huge bed that features a massive heart for a headboard. And, of course, it also vibrates for extra fun.

4. Turn Ons and Turn Offs

The Sims 4 finally has a complete Turn Ons and Turn Offs system with Lovestruck. You can choose what your Sim likes in a partner and what they don’t, and there are many options. You can make your Sim have as specific likes as you want, or as open to anything as you want.

Image via EA

3. Date Events

Dates are far more in-depth now, with the ability to choose what you’d like to accomplish on the date, and how far you want to take the relationship. This is great for more story-driven gameplay since you can choose if you want to simply get to know your date or go so far as to end the date with a nice WooHoo.

2. Romantic Boundaries

Polyamorous couples are something the team for Sims probably should’ve added a while ago, but better late than never! If your Sim is interested in open relationships, you have the ability to turn off jealousy with the new romantic boundaries. Your Sim can have as many partners as they want or just one soulmate, it’s completely up to you.

1. Cupid’s Corner Dating App

One of the biggest features of Lovestruck is also the very best the pack has to offer. If you’re too busy to hit up a club every night looking for single Sims, Cupid’s Corner is here for quick online dating. Swipe through tons of options and choose the perfect Sim to spend the evening with.

The most impressive part of the dating app is the fact that it includes not just regular townies, but also Sims from the gallery. There is a huge variety of Sims to choose from now, without the hassle of placing them into the world yourself. It’s a great idea that is perfect if you’re not looking for a Sim with mismatching outfits and 12 accessories stacked on top of each other.

How to get a divorce in The Sims 4 Lovestruck https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-get-divorced-sims-4-lovestruck/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-to-get-divorced-sims-4-lovestruck https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-get-divorced-sims-4-lovestruck/#respond Tue, 06 Aug 2024 21:46:39 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=573126

Love is all around in the Lovestruck expansion for The Sims 4. With a romantic new city, plenty of new ways to date, and the Cupid’s Corner dating app, getting in a romantic mood is easier than ever.

However, not all relationships are perfect. If your Sims aren’t as happily married as they were and are thinking of moving on, it may be time to end things. Your Sim can once again be a single on the prowl by divorcing their spouse, and here’s how you can do it in Lovestruck.

How to divorce your Sims in Sims 4 Lovestruck

There are two ways to get divorced with the Lovestruck expansion:

  • Manually divorcing your Sim’s spouse
  • Autonomous divorcing when the Relationship Satisfaction is too low

Both of these methods work perfectly, however, manually divorcing is quicker than the autonomous option where your Sims choose to divorce on their own.

Manually divorcing

Image via EA

If you want your Sims to divorce immediately, it’s simple. All you need to do is click on either Sim and choose the Relationship interactions. Divorce will be one of the options. Click on this to divorce your spouse instantly.

This will play an animation where the two Sims argue for a little, then end the relationship. This is permanent, and if you want your two Sims back together, they’ll need to get remarried again.

Divorcing through Relationship Satisfaction

Image via EA

The other method of getting your Sims divorced is by getting their Relationship Satisfaction level low enough for one of them to initiate a divorce. This is done over time by not keeping up the relationship with positive interactions.

Relationship Satisfaction levels, introduced in the Lovestruck pack, is how you determine if two Sims are happy in a relationship together. You can find the Relationship Satisfaction level by clicking on your partner in the Relationship tab, and choosing Open Profile. Scroll down in the Sim's profile until you find Relationship, and you can see whether they are satisfied with their partner.

You can speed up lowering the Relationship Satisfaction level by repeatedly performing Mean or other negative interactions with your Spouse, like yelling at them or blaming them for problems in the marriage. If your Sim disregards their partner’s Romantic Boundaries or doesn't fix their romantic dynamic, this is another quick way to bring the satisfaction down.

Eventually, whether the Relationship Satisfaction level is brought down by negative interactions or neglect, you’ll receive pop-ups in the notifications section that the Sims are considering divorce. You will get multiple notifications before the divorce is completed, including a final one stating that this is the last chance to save the marriage.

Finally, when enough time has passed and if the satisfaction is not brought up, you’ll get the final pop-up that your Sim’s spouse has decided to divorce them. This, much like manually divorcing, is permanent and cannot be undone.

If you don’t want your Sims divorcing autonomously, you’ll need to keep their relationship satisfactory by making sure they interact positively often, including both friendly and romantic actions. They can also choose to go to Cupid’s Counseling, the marriage counseling for Sims, if they want to fix a bad relationship.

The Sims 4 has a world problem, and it’s only getting worse https://www.destructoid.com/the-sims-4-has-a-world-problem-and-its-only-getting-worse/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-sims-4-has-a-world-problem-and-its-only-getting-worse https://www.destructoid.com/the-sims-4-has-a-world-problem-and-its-only-getting-worse/#respond Sat, 03 Aug 2024 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=569288

A life simulator, understandably, should let you leave your home to experience the wide-open world. And that’s exactly what you can do in The Sims 4: travel to the rest of the world. Unfortunately, in the fourth installment of the classic Sims series, there’s not that much to see.

The Sims 4 has a bit of a world problem. If you were around for the original release of the game, you remember the disappointment when you first decided to leave your home. There was no open world to explore, and there were so few lots to do anything that it was almost better to just keep your Sim on one lot like you were limited to in the original Sims 1

As the years have gone on, EA has expanded on the amount of worlds that you can visit with the introduction of numerous expansion and game packs. While no one is psyched about having to pay for even more DLC, it at least gives players new worlds to explore. But these worlds are getting smaller and smaller as they continue to release.

Beautiful, but no substance

Visually, many of the new worlds are incredibly appealing. Worlds like Tomarang, Sulani, and the latest addition with the Lovestruck pack Ciudad Enamorada, provide breathtaking views for your Sims to enjoy on beaches, in the woods, and on top of towering skyscrapers. Sadly, that’s all these are though. A vast majority of some of the most beautiful locations are simply set dressing.

Image via EA

Take for example, in the world of Tomarang included in For Rent, there’s a beautiful Southeast Asian-inspired temple that serves as the Tiger Sanctuary. What a perfect place to go exploring for secrets of the town, right? But The Tiger Sanctuary is nothing more than a rabbit hole for your Sim to disappear into, with a few pop-ups describing your adventures.

So, not only are many of the stunning spots just there to look pretty, but the lots you are able to go and check out are limited. The original two worlds included, Willow Creek and Oasis Springs, both have a respectable 21 lots. This isn’t huge, and a majority of those lots are taken up by residential homes, but at least it was a starting point. The problem is that the worlds that have been released have been shaving off lots for a while now.

The world keeps getting smaller

When packs were first released, it seemed like the dev team was trying to make the worlds bigger than before. Windenburg, the world included with Get Together, gave players 14 residential lots and 13 community lots to play with. San Myshuno, packaged with City Living, has 30 lots in total if you count each apartment as its own lot.

However, as more packs have been released, those numbers have been dwindling. Get Famous, released in 2018, has only 11 lots in total. The latest world for players to explore, Ciudad Enamorada, only has 13. Compare this to the largest world included in The Sims 3, Sunset Valley, which had a whopping 92 lots. That’s 79 fewer lots to play with.

It doesn’t help that, unlike previous installments in the series, the map is not editable. You cannot add new lots to the land. While you are able to edit each lot itself, you can’t place a new one next to an existing one, even if that land is blank. The map is instead 2D, with no way to change it.

There are no world adventures here

This has a huge impact on gameplay. Instead of plenty of places to visit, to explore and meet new Sims, players are stuck with the same few places and faces. Playing Sims 4 feels almost like a routine because there’s not much to see and do. Even when new packs are released, you’re able to check out the entire world in just a short few hours of gameplay.

It’s not just the lack of lots, but the lack of variety within them. Each world features the same types of venues, as put by user ContinuumKing on a Reddit post discussing the new features of the Lovestruck pack:

https://www.reddit.com/r/thesims/comments/1dpivjv/comment/laihn0o/

With plenty of upvotes, the sentiment is quite popular. There’s nothing new or exciting to check out in the other worlds because the same activities exist in the world you’re already in. User Big_Stop8917 shared the sentiment:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Sims4/comments/1e6j3mk/comment/lduihq5/

For fans who love to take their Sims on adventures and journeys that span their entire lifetime, you simply can’t do that with The Sims 4. The coolest places to go are just scenery, the lots that are there are repetitive, and you’ll be able to see it all within just a few days of your Sim’s life. It honestly makes me want to just keep my Sims at home.

We’d love to see a change in this as more DLC releases for Sims 4. Bigger worlds expand the possibilities in gameplay significantly. However, the expansions continue to sell well, so it seems there’s little incentive for EA to fix the problem. The packs will keep rolling out, but hopefully the worlds won't keep this trend going.

10 strangest WooHoo spots in The Sims 4 https://www.destructoid.com/strangest-woohoo-spots-in-sims-4/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=strangest-woohoo-spots-in-sims-4 https://www.destructoid.com/strangest-woohoo-spots-in-sims-4/#respond Sun, 28 Jul 2024 14:03:00 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=566450

With the Lovestruck expansion out, there’s plenty of romance in the air for your Sims to enjoy. Beautiful walks through the garden, quality time on the beach, and of course, WooHooing are all part of the fun.

The Sims 4 has the most WooHoo spots for your Sims to enjoy in the entire franchise, and there’s at least a few that will make you turn your head and wonder why. Here are the strangest locations your Sims can WooHoo in The Sims 4

Weirdest WooHoo spots you can find in The Sims 4

Image via EA

10. Coffin

We’re starting off strong with the coffin. Included in the Vampires game pack, your Sims can get lively in this object designed for death. While coffins are intended for vampires to sleep in when you're playing the game, rather than being buried in, it’s still a bit strange.

You can either purchase one of these coffins for your own home or pay a visit to your neighbors in Forgotten Hollow. At least the lining looks comfy.

Image via EA

9. Rocket Ship

Included in the base game, this is one of the weirdest places your Sims can WooHoo in that you can get for free. Once a rocket ship is built or purchased, your two Sims can have all the fun they want. How do the logistics of that work if there’s no gravity? I guess we don’t need to worry about that.

Image via EA

8. Observatory

Gazing up at the stars can be very romantic, so naturally, some of your Sims could get frisky from using the observatory. However, it’s a pretty cramped space. How comfortable can this wooden shack be? It might not be the weirdest of all the locations, but it just looks like it wouldn’t be a very pleasant experience.

Image via EA

7. Bushes

Bushes are given quite a lot of versatility in The Sims 4, as they can be used not only as decoration but also to relieve bladder and other activities. WooHooing in a bush doesn’t seem particularly comfortable, but they do make for an easy location if your Sims are in the mood and are out and about.

Image via EA

6. Piles of Leaves

If your Sims weren’t fazed by WooHooing in a bush full of sticks and thorns, surely a pile of leaves won’t throw them off, either. If you have the Seasons expansion, all you need to do is have your Sims rake a pile of leaves and jump on in. Just make sure the pile of leaves is fresh so they’re not uncomfortable.

You’re likely to find these piles of leaves everywhere during the autumn, so keep your eyes peeled. If you see leaves on the ground, you can choose to have your Sim rake them too, so they can create their own pile of fun.

Image via EA

5. Money Vault

What’s better than a comfy bed? A comfy bed made of piles of Simoleons, that’s what. Included in the Get Famous expansion, your high-class Sims can purchase a vault to bask in their wealth, as well as WooHoo on it. Their date will be more than impressed with this.

Image via EA

4. Bat Form

Returning to the Vampires pack, if you’ve got two vampires who are feeling saucy and have unlocked the bat form, they can WooHoo as bats. Best of all, this can be done anywhere you want. So, no matter whether your Sims are in the comfort of their own home or in town, they can still get it on.

Image via EA

3. Ice Cave

If your Sims are willing to trek up the icy mountain in the Snowy Escape expansion pack, they’ll be able to have a romantic WooHoo in the ice caves you can find along the way. It’s quite a hassle to get all the way up there, not to mention it’s cold and snowy. Your Sims deserve a nice break if they can make it all the way to this location.

Image via EA

2. Animal Shed

If your Sims don’t mind the smell of llamas or cows, then an animal shed is a very convenient WooHoo location for them. This is another one of those spots that you’ll want to make sure is cleaned out before use. You also want to make sure you’re doing this so you’re not neglecting your furry friends.

Image via EA

1. Dumpster

There’s no way I couldn’t put a literal dumpster as the strangest WooHoo location in The Sims 4. Who would do this? It’s filled with garbage, it smells bad, and it doesn’t look particularly cozy. That won’t stop some Sims, though. If you’re morbidly curious about this WooHoo location, you’ll need the Eco Lifestyle pack to be able to experience it. There are plenty of dumpsters littered around Evergreen Harbor, so feel free to use any of them for your romantic escapades.

10 features we want back in The Sims https://www.destructoid.com/10-features-we-want-back-in-the-sims/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=10-features-we-want-back-in-the-sims https://www.destructoid.com/10-features-we-want-back-in-the-sims/#respond Sat, 27 Jul 2024 16:15:00 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=565165

Nearly a full decade after its release, The Sims 4 has plenty of content to offer up to its players whenever they make a new save. Whether you’re playing the base game or have every expansion released, there’s plenty to do in this life simulator.

But, unfortunately, the game doesn’t have everything that the series is known for. Right from the launch, series staples have been missing, and fans are still asking EA for them to this day. These are features from previous games that we want back in The Sims 4.

Features fans want to make a comeback to The Sims

Image via EA

1. Create a Style

One of, if not the best aspect of The Sims 3, was the famous Create a Style tool. For the uninitiated, this feature would allow you to change the pattern, texture, and color of nearly everything in the game. This included both clothes and furniture.

Fans were devastated when it was revealed that Create a Style had been cut for the fourth installment due to performance concerns, which is a huge loss, seeing as the customization abilities were limitless. Now, fans must live with a limited number of swatches instead. We would love to see this feature be brought back.

Image via EA

2. Fairies

The Sims 4 has done a great job of expanding the supernatural life states that are available, including vampires, spellcasters, and werewolves. However, there’s a key one missing, and that’s fairies. Introduced in the third game, fairies were refreshingly bright and beautiful compared to the spooky aura of the rest of the Supernatural expansion.

Needless to say, this life state has not been introduced into the fourth game. Fans instead have to rely on custom content and mods if they want to be a magical fairy living in a cute cottage in the forest causing mischief. What a shame.

Image via EA

3. Burglars

Was there anything more terrifying than the burglar music from the original Sims? Not that I can remember. Burglars added a bit of challenge to the game, with these sticky-handed Sims taking some of your most valuable items in the dead of night.

They’ve been a staple of the series since the original game, and have been included in every entry — until The Sims 4. There are no burglars in the fourth installment, and that’s a real shame. It made the gameplay much more exciting and made players appreciate every one of their items a bit more.

Image via EA

4. Cars

What’s a bustling Sim city without endless traffic to get caught in? One that feels a lot less lifelike. Cars were first added to the series in The Sims 2 and stuck around as the best way to travel in the third installment. But, in The Sims 4, cars have been downgraded to nothing more than set dressing.

Instead, your Sims just disappear into the void when they go to exit a lot. While cars didn’t change up the gameplay that much, as you couldn’t actually drive them, they made the game that much more realistic. Plus, what’s a dream mansion without a stunning sports car in the front?

Image via EA

5. Singer Career

The Get Famous expansion pack for the fourth game lets you dive deep into fame, but unlike previous installments, it doesn’t let you do this as a singer. Sure, acting and content creation are fun to play with, but they are just not the same.

There not only is no ability to be a famous singer but there’s no way to form a band, either. For anyone who was convinced they were going to be a rock star someday, this is very limiting. It might not be the most vital thing missing from The Sims 4, but I want it back all the same.

Image via EA

6. Open World

This one is likely nothing more than a pipe dream, seeing as how the entire core gameplay model of Sims 4 would need to be reworked to include this. But the open world was so popular in The Sims 3, that it’s a wonder why it was removed in the first place.

Instead of having an entire world to explore without limits, players are forced to endure endless loading screens just to get to a different lot. This is playtime wasted, and many fans are still salty that Sims 4 chose to get rid of the open world. Perhaps we can get our hopes up for the fifth game.

Image via EA

7. Dying from removing the pool ladder

Is this one practical or realistic? Not in the slightest. But it’s such a beloved feature from the franchise that I want it back anyway. It was a right of passage to kill at least a handful of Sims by letting them go for a swim only to delete their exit.

Death as a whole is a bit sanitized in the fourth game, with ghosts given pretty much all the abilities of living Sims and multiple ways to bring them back to life. So to take away one of the most legendary deaths in the series feels like an extra kick to fans. It might not happen in real life, but I’d love for it to happen to my Sims once more.

Image via EA

8. Create your own world

The Sims 2 featured something quite special, which was the ability to pick from a huge template of cityscapes and build your own world to play around in. Want to make your hometown? Maybe New York City? It’s easy to do with the Create a World feature.

Sadly, this hasn’t shown up in any other Sims entries, although you were free to place more empty lots in the third game. This has also been removed, and now players are stuck with premade worlds that offer no customization besides the lots already placed. It’s very limiting, and we would love to see this feature come back.

Image via EA

9. Aspiration Failure

Sims have a set of needs they have to take care of in order to be happy and healthy, just like real people. In past games, they’ve also had to complete wants and goals in order to remain happy, also like in real life. In Sims 4? Nothing.

Aspiration failure added a level of challenge to the game, as it was necessary not only to keep them physically healthy, but mentally as well. Sims felt more dynamic, and we’d love to see that put back into the franchise.

Image via EA

10. Zodiac Signs

Even the original Sims had these. Astrology is nowhere to be found in Sims 4, and nowadays the only way to get your fill of zodiac in the game is to download mods or custom content. This is a real shame because it’s never a bad thing for Sims to have more personality.

It’s understandable that they didn’t want personalities entirely dependent on a Sim’s sign, as it was in the first two titles, but not even being able to choose it at all seems like a big step back. It just seems strange to remove zodiac signs altogether. EA should just put them back into the game.

Fastest ground mounts in Palworld and how to get them https://www.destructoid.com/fastest-ground-mounts-in-palworld-and-how-to-get-them/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=fastest-ground-mounts-in-palworld-and-how-to-get-them https://www.destructoid.com/fastest-ground-mounts-in-palworld-and-how-to-get-them/#respond Tue, 23 Jul 2024 21:08:42 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=564517

The islands that make up Palpagos are ripe for exploring when you jump into Palworld, with plenty of places to see. From the endless Pals to the natural resources that dot the land, you’ll have plenty to do.

You’re going to want to travel quickly when you’re adventuring across the land, which is why you’re going to need a fast mount. Ground mounts are a great way to traverse Palpagos to get where you need to fast. We’ve got the fastest ground mounts and how you can get them right here.

Best ground mounts in Palworld

Here are the five fastest ground mounts in Palworld, and where you can find and catch them yourself:

Image via Pocketpair

Necromus

The fastest ground mount available in the entire game is none other than Necromus. This Pal not only makes for an incredible Pal to bring into combat, but is also the best ground mount due to its sprinting speed of 1600.

If you want Necromus, you’re going to need to be ready for a tough fight, since the only way to get Necromus is by capturing the Level 50 Alpha Pal that’s located in the northern tip of the Dessicated Desert. Use the Deep Sand Dunes Fast Travel point to get there quickly, and then head north of the small lake that’s directly west of the point.

Your best shot at bringing Necromus’ health down is having a tough Dragon-type Pal to combat them, such as Jetragon or Jormuntide. This will exploit Necromus’ weakness, as they’re a Dark-type and weak to Dragon moves.

Make sure to also bring a stronger sphere, like a Legendary Sphere or Ultimate Sphere so the Necromus doesn’t break free.

Image via Pocketpair

Frostallion

Another Legendary Pal, Frostallion, is next on our list with a sprint speed of a whopping 1500. This icy horse not only makes for a great ground mount but is the best Ice-type Pal you can find for combat. You’ll definitely want to pick them up.

However, they’re also a Level 50 Alpha Pal, and will not be easy to catch. Head to the Astral Mountains and you can find Frostallion near the lake due west of the Land of Absolute Zero Fast Travel point.

As mentioned, Frostallion is one of the strongest Pals in the game, so you need to be ready for combat. Stock up on strong armor and bring a powerful Fire-type with you like Jormuntide Ignis to have a chance. Catching Frostallion is worth the trouble, though.

Image via Pocketpair

Paladius

Paladius is like a sibling to Necromus, both being in suits of armor. However, Paladius is a bit slower as a ground mount. However, that’s not to say you won’t be pleased with Paladius, who has a sprinting speed of 1400.

In fact, Paladius and Necromus are so close, that they spawn in the same location, in the northern tip of the Dessicated Desert. You can use that same location to find the Paladius.

A great way to take down Paladius is to use their sibling, Necromus, to fight them. They have near equal strength, but Necromus is a Dark-type which is strong against Neutral-types like Paladius. Attack them at nighttime when they’re asleep with your Necromus for the best results.

Image via Pocketpair

Rayhound

Next up is Rayhound, who luckily is nowhere near as difficult to catch, but isn’t too shabby in combat. Plus, you still get a great sprinting speed of 1380 when you catch a Rayhound without the difficult fight required for the Legendary Pals above.

Rayhound can be found nearly anywhere on the southern half of the island of the Dessicated Desert. I used the Duneshelter Fast Travel point and headed south to find one quickly.

Rayhound is an Electric-type, so you’ll want a solid Ground-type Pal to take them on and get their health down. A Pal like Menasting or Warsect is perfect for the job. While it’s not a Level 50 Legendary Alpha Pal, you’ll still need to be ready to put up a good fight to catch them.

Image via Pocketpair

Pyrin

Finally, we have Pyrin as the last of the fastest ground mounts you can find with a speed of 1300. This Pal’s usefulness mainly lies in being a good ground mount, and like Rayhound, it isn’t a tough Alpha Pal that can be a hassle to get.

Pyrins can be found on the eastern half of Mount Obsidian. I used the Foot of the Volcano Fast Travel point and headed up to find mine, but as long as you stay on the eastern side you can spot one.

Bring a strong Water-type Pal to get Pyrin’s health low enough to throw your Pal Sphere. Relaxaurus or Azurobe are great Pals to fight Pyrin with, as they’re not too high in level for you to get but still great in combat. Azurobe is even one of the fastest water mounts you can get if you need to travel the seas.

Having a ground mount is a huge plus while scavenging the lands for more materials and resources, and even new Pals to catch and use. You’ll want to get one as soon as you can for the best experience.

There is a huge variety of Pals for you to get your hands on while you’re exploring Palpagos in Palworld. Each comes with their own abilities, work suitability, and strengths. Some are great for combat, while others are perfect for busy work on your base.

Palpagos is a large land, so it’s natural that some Pals shine by being able to transport you quickly. Water travel is especially important since it can take you to all the different islands. If you’re looking for the fastest Pals for water travel, we’re here to show you.

The best swimming mount Pals in Palworld

Here are the top three fastest water mounts in Palworld, and where you can find them:

One of the best Pals in Palworld for Water travel
Image via Pocketpair

Azurobe

If you’re looking for the fastest water mount available, look no further than Azurobe. This Water and Dragon-type Pal offers you the quickest swimming speed when you’re traveling across the water, with a speed of 800.

To get Azurobe, travel to either the lake to the west of the Bridge of The Twin Knights or No. 1 Wildlife Sanctuary. I’d recommend the lake since the Ravine Entrance Fast Travel point will take you directly where you want to go. There will be a level 17 Alpha Azurobe you can battle here.

To bring its health down, use a strong Electric-type or Ice-type Pal. These will exploit Azurobe’s weaknesses. Throw a Pal Sphere to catch it, and you’ve got the quickest water mount available. They're perfect for when you don't have a flying mount but still need to cross the water.

Azurobe in Palworld
Image via Pocketpair

Jormuntide

Jormuntide is next on the list, with a solid swimming speed of 700. Something great about Jormuntide is that not only are they a great water mount, but they are also incredible when it comes to combat.

Much like Azurobe, Jormuntide is a Water and Dragon-type, so bring an Electric or Ice-type Pal to battle them. The best for the job is either Orserk or Grizzbolt, who both have devastating electrical attacks that are great for taking Jormuntide’s health down.

There are two spots you can find Jormuntide, and both are level 45 Alpha Pals. You can either go to the lake south of the Twilight Dunes, or the bones in the water that are on the western side of the Eastern Wild Island. Either one will let you find and capture this Pal.

Jormuntide in Palworld, a mount for swimming
Image via Pocketpair

Surfent

The last on our list is Surfent, who is a great swimming mount for those just starting off their journey in Palworld. This Pal has a swimming speed of 650, putting them just below Jormuntide. However, they’re much easier to obtain.

You can find Surfent either at the river leading up to the Shoal Mineshaft just north of the Seabreeze Archipelago, or in the lake to the east of the Bamboo Groves. Both of these spots aren’t difficult to get to, so you can find Surfent easily.

Surfent is a Water-type only and isn’t particularly strong when it comes to combat. This means so long as you bring a solid Electric-type Pal with you for combat, you won’t have too much trouble catching one.

Surfent may be the slowest on this list, but they’ve got an edge over the other two in that you can obtain a Surfent early in the game. You don’t need to fight a powerful Alpha variant of the Pal, and the saddle for this Pal unlocks at Technology level 10.

You can even keep it on your base when you've captured a faster mount. You’ll definitely want to get this Pal if you’re just kicking off your playthrough.

How to get Kikit in Palworld https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-get-kikit-in-palworld/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-to-get-kikit-in-palworld https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-get-kikit-in-palworld/#respond Fri, 19 Jul 2024 15:12:31 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=561803

Sakurajima Summer is here for Palworld, giving players plenty of new content to dive into as they journey through Palpagos, building bases, defending themselves from raids, and catching Pals. The update brings plenty of stuff to the game, but most exciting of all is the new Pals.

One of these Pals is Kikit, a Ground-type who might not be very big, but they are quite interesting. If you’re on the hunt for Kikit, this is where you can find one and how to add them to your Paldeck.

Where to find Kikit in Palworld

Kikit can be found at two locations, both on the island of Sakurajima: the Northern Rock Field and the Southern Sandbar. Luckily, there are Fast Travel points at both of these locations, so as long as you’ve unlocked them, they won’t be hard to get to.

Once you’re at either the Northern Rock Field or Southern Sandbar, Kikits can be found all around. They normally travel in groups of up to three, so you’ll have plenty of chances to get one.

You can find the exact locations where Kikits can be found, which are circled on the map below.

Image via Pocketpair

How to catch Kikit in Sakurajima Update

You’ll need to use a Pal Sphere to catch your Kikit by throwing it at the Pal. Engage them in combat to bring their health down as low as possible before throwing it for the best catch rate. Make sure not to kill it, though.

Kikits are not the best combat Pals, so as long as you bring the type they're weak to, which is Grass-type Pals, you shouldn’t have too much trouble bringing one’s health down. Be aware that these Pals will roll away from you, too, so be fast.

If you don’t feel like catching one out in the wild, you can also hatch a Kikit from a Rocky Egg if you have one.

Kikit Type, Work Suitability, and Base Stats

This little Pal is a Ground-type Pal, which is weak to Grass-types and strong against Electric-types. They only have one work suitability, Mining, of which they are only a level one.

The base stats of Kikit are relatively low, unfortunately. They have a base HP of 75, a base Attack of 70, and a base Defense of 90. This puts Kikit at a low combat tier and sadly a low base tier as well, since they only have one work suitability.

However, Kikits have a certain charm to them, and they still make good workers for your base. They’re also pretty cute.

How to get Xenovader and Xenogard in Palworld https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-get-xenovader-and-xenogard-in-palworld/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-to-get-xenovader-and-xenogard-in-palworld https://www.destructoid.com/how-to-get-xenovader-and-xenogard-in-palworld/#respond Fri, 19 Jul 2024 15:11:48 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=561820

One of the best parts of the Sakurajima Summer update for Palworld is the inclusion of new Pals to catch and add to your team. There is a wide range of new pocket monsters to find, and they include two of the best Pals you can find in the game.

Xenovader and Xenogard are these Pals, and since they’re so useful in combat and at bases, you’ll definitely want to get your hands on them. Here’s how you can catch both Xenovader and Xenogard.

Where to find Xenovader and Xenogard

Xenogard and Xenovader don’t have any set spawn points — rather, they spawn at Meteorite Events only. Similar to Base Raids and Supply Drops, when a Meteorite Event occurs, you’ll get a notification and be given a point on your heads-up display pointing to where it’s happening. These can occur anywhere on the map.

You can see on the heads-up display below what this marker looks like. Head for this point to find the Pals. You will either find a group of Xenovaders at the event, or if you’re lucky one large Xenogard will spawn.

Image via Pocketpair

Note that if the Meteorite Event is taking place on the island of Sakurajima, neither Xenovader nor Xenogard will spawn. You’ll get a Selyne instead.

How to catch Xenovader and Xenogard

You can catch both of these space Pals by bringing their health down as low as you can before throwing a Pal Sphere at them. Both Xenovaders and Xenogards are incredibly tough, so bringing down their health won’t be easy.

For Xenovaders, bring a powerful Dragon-type Pal to exploit their weaknesses. The best Pal to do this with is definitely Jetragon, who is the strongest Dragon-type Pal in the game. I highly recommend catching one to fight Xenovaders.

Xenogard is an incredibly strong Alpha Pal and is rarer the spawn than Xenovaders. However, only one will spawn per meteor event, so you’ll have less to fight. Xenogard, who is absolutely massive, is even harder to beat than Xenovader.

Bring your strongest Ice-type to beat Xenogard. The best Pal for this is Frostallion, since it’s one of the strongest Ice-types but also boosts Ice element damage. If you don’t have Frostallion, Foxcicle is a good backup.

Make sure to also bring powerful Pal Spheres like Legendary Spheres or Ultimate Spheres to ensure that you catch the Pal when their health is low. You don’t want to miss out on them.

Xenovader and Xenogard Type, Work Suitability, and Base Stats

Here are all the stats for both Xenovader and Xenogard:

Pal Type Work Suitability Base Stats
Xenovader Dark-type Lumbering, Level 2
Transporting, Level 2
HP: 90
Attack: 125
Defense: 85
Xenogard Dragon-type Mining, Level 3 HP: 110
Attack: 120
Defense: 130

Both of these Pals are incredible when it comes to combat, and also quite hand on your bases. You definitely don’t want to forgo them, so make sure to make it a priority to find them at Meteor Events and take them for your team.

There’s plenty of beautiful cherry blossom trees to see in the Sakurajima Summer update for Palworld. Not only have the beautiful pink trees been added, but plenty of new content is here as well, such as new technology, and new locations.

New Pals are part of the update as well, with the additions to the Paldeck giving players plenty more variety for their combat and bases. One of the Sakurajima Pals is Lullu, a lovely flower-esque Pal that’s got great work suitability. If you’re on the hunt for Lullu, we’re here to show you how to get them.

Where to find Lullu in Palworld

Lullu can only be found in the area surrounding the Dancing Sakura Shrine on Sakurajima. Along the Cherry Blossom Crossroads, just to the east of the shrine, is the best place to catch the Pal. If you have the Fast Travel point unlocked here, use it to travel there quickly.

However, you can go to the south and find Lullu as well. Just make sure not to cross into the Southern Sandbar, or else you’ve gone too far. On the map below, you can find Lullus in the circled areas.

How to catch Lullu in Sakurajima Update

To catch a Lullu after you’ve found one in the wild, you’ll need to throw a Pal Sphere at them. Make sure to bring their health down as low as you can for the best catch rate, by engaging them in combat.

Lullu isn’t a particularly strong combat Pal, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble bringing their health down to capture one. They have low combat abilities and base stats, so simply bring your strongest Pal with you to get the job done.

If you want to do it quickly, you can bring a Fire-type Pal with you to bring Lullu’s health down quicker. Lullu is a grass type, so any you come across will be weak to a Fire-type Pal. Pals like Blazamut or Faleris are perfect for this.

A Lullu can also be hatched from a Verdant Egg if you use an Egg Incubator. Eggs don’t guarantee a specific Pal though, so use this method at your own risk.

Lullu Type, Work Suitability, and Base Stats

Lullu is a Grass-type Pal that’s weak to Fire-types and strong against Ground-types. This won’t come too much in handy, though, as Lullu has pretty low stats and isn’t well-suited for combat. The base stats for Lullu are an HP of 90, an Attack of 90, and a Defense of 80.

What Lullu lacks in combat ability is made up by their incredible usefulness when on your home base. This is because of their multiple work suitabilities:

  • Planting, Level 2
  • Handiwork, Level 2
  • Medicine, Level 2
  • Gathering, Level 1

If you plan on adding a Lullu to your Paldeck, putting them on base to craft medicine or tend to your garden is the best option for this flowery Sakurajima Pal.
