Whenever a Final Fantasy XIV patch approaches, players anxiously await a confirmed release date and scheduled server downtime. With the launch of FFXIV Patch 7.1 still hanging in the balance, let’s review everything we know about its release timing and any server downtime — either planned or unplanned.
When is the FFXIV Patch 7.1 release date?
It’s a guess for now, but based on the MMO’s usual patch cycle, expect FFXIV Patch 7.1 to release sometime at the end of October or early November.
In short, we don’t know, but we do know that there is a Live Letter from the Producer happening on September 29. The Live Letter will be streamed live from Tokyo Game Show and, according to this Lodestone post, will feature information about part one of 7.1. This is likely to include a release date, so we’ll update this page accordingly when new information is available.
What’s coming in the FFXIV 7.1 update?
Although we don’t know the exact specifics of what’s to come in patch 7.1 itself, we can take a pretty educated guess based on previous x.1 patches.
We’ll definitely get more MSQ quests, which will continue with the story of Dawntrail, and this is likely to include another Dungeon to run through. x.1 patches have historically also introduced us to each expansion’s Alliance Raid series, and we already know that the theme of Dawntrail‘s Alliance Raids is “Echoes of Vana’diel”. These raids are a crossover with Final Fantasy XI, so they’re likely to feature a lot of foes familiar to players of the previous Final Fantasy MMO.
Outside of these two content updates, we know that other things are coming at some point during the 7.1x patches. First and foremost the new ‘Futures Rewritten’ ultimate raid coming, which is set to . Yoshida has also stated that there will be a new type of content, savage 24-man raids, coming at some point in 7.1x as well. Then there’s Shade’s Triangle and Cosmic Exploration, which are both almost definitely arriving during 7.1x.
In short, there’s a lot to look forward to, but there aren’t any specified dates just yet.
Upcoming FFXIV scheduled maintenance
There is no upcoming maintenance or downtime planned at this time.
We will keep this updated with information on upcoming maintenance, which may impact gameplay.
Are FFXIV servers down?
At the time of writing, all world servers appear to be online, functioning as normal. Though the following world servers are currently considered “congested,” and the creation of new characters on these servers is unavailable at this time:
EU | Oceanian | North American | Japanese |
Twintania | Adamantoise | Bahamut | |
Cactuar | Chocobo | ||
Faerie | Masamune | ||
Gilgamesh | Typhon | ||
Jenova | Yojimbo | ||
Midgardsormr | Zeromus | ||
Sargatanas | |||
Siren | |||
Goblin | |||
Malboro | |||
Mateus | |||
Zalera | |||
Seraph | |||
Exodus | |||
Famfrit | |||
Hyperion | |||
Lamia |
The servers for FFXIV are usually pretty reliable, although they occasionally go down due to DDoS attacks or other hardware hangups. Square Enix is (typically) quick to resolve these issues, and worlds usually come back online within a couple of minutes or hours at the latest.
We will update this page as we notice changes to this, but for 24-hour coverage of servers, head over to the Server Status page on the Lodestone.
How often does FFXIV update?
During an address to players in February 2022, Yoshi P explained that the development team would be slowing the release schedule for major updates for added dev time. Updates were previously scheduled to release every three-and-a-half months, but in order to focus on the health of the development team and improve the quality of patches, major updates are now released every four months.
